Five Algorithms
MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 are calculated together as you type.
Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes from text or a file. Add a secret key to create HMAC hashes, and copy any result with one click.
Hashing uses your browser's built-in cryptography. Your text and files never leave your device.
MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for checksums but are no longer secure for passwords or signatures — use SHA-256 or stronger for security.
A hash function turns any input into a fixed-length fingerprint. The same input always gives the same hash, but even a tiny change gives a completely different one — which makes hashes useful for checking that a file or message has not changed.
A hash generator calculates these fingerprints for you. Pick the algorithm you need, or see them all at once.

Choose a file to calculate its checksum and compare it with a published value.
Enter a secret key to generate HMAC hashes with any of the algorithms.
Switch between lowercase and uppercase hexadecimal output.
Copy a single hash, or all of them in one go.
Everything runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
Type or paste text, or choose a file to hash.
Enter an HMAC key if you need a keyed hash.
All algorithms update instantly.
Copy the hash you need.
Quick answers about using the MoSanKit Hash Generator.
Use SHA-256 or stronger for anything security related. MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for checking file integrity against accidental changes, but are not secure against deliberate attacks.
No. Hashing is one-way. Short or common inputs can be guessed, which is why passwords should be hashed with a slow, salted algorithm rather than plain SHA or MD5.
HMAC combines a hash with a secret key to prove a message came from someone who knows the key. It is common for signing API requests.
There is nothing to hash yet. Type some text or choose a file and the hashes appear.
Yes. Files are read in your browser and never sent to a server. Files up to 200 MB are supported.
Check the exact text, including spaces and line breaks, and the character encoding. This tool hashes the UTF-8 bytes of your text.
